She's a great girl, and I think it's a wonderful story idea, but let me try to explain the issue with sending it to AG.

I'm working on a series of stories about a girl in 1884 Arizona. If, hypothetically, they were to have someone else already doing the research for a girl in that period who had an improper talent for cards and who's father happened to be a bounty Hunter, and then I were to send in the set of stories I wrote, they would either have to kill the project or else risk that I would sue them because they're using my ideas. [1] It's the same disclaimer that movie studios and publishing houses have. There's too much potential for legal problems if they don't. For an example, there was (is?) a legal case between Sony Pictures and White Wolf over the movie Underworld because Underworld was very similar to a product White Wolf made. I've also had my own character (freely given, so I had no legal grounds to complain) mutilated by later writers in the series.

Now, that's not to say that such a girl could not be made, and that you can't write it. But first write an inquiry letter asking if they would be open to ideas for future limited edition dolls and their stories. Don't include anything about the doll herself, other than you have a character in mind which has recieved positive feedback from other girls in the target audience. If they say no, then shrug and write the story anyway for the enjoyment of you and your friends (and us [img]wink.gif[/img] ). If they say yes, you may just end up with a contract writing for Pleasant company, or at least assisting with the design.

I say this from the voice of experience, as I've had some work published professionally and am currently staff writer on a RPG Webzine. The last thing I want is to discorage someone from writing, but I do want people to be aware that there are reasons for why companies don't take unsolicited submissions... and that there are ways to submit ideas that won't result in a flat rejection (which Pleasant Publications and Matel would have to do for legal reasons).

[1] this is actually in an Alternate Universe, so I know Pleasant Company would never create a girl enough like Bridget for me to worry about.

I don't see why you shouldn't send it in, Elle. Somebody has to write those stories, don't they? And why not you? They could pay you just as they would any other writer. Don't be afraid to try. I think you have some great ideas. [img]graemlins/thumbs_up.gif[/img]

Go for it Ellie, it is a wonderful idea, it is surprising how many young girls love animals....I am sure AG would enjoy reading your story.....I know we would.....

Hi, I love the idea! Only thing I disagree with is that she should be a "Hippie". I'm really not sure about the hippie thing because some hippies do some bad things. Otherwise, I love the idea! I would love to read the story!
